Good day, WXTMAY Buddies!
I hope you ❤️ the Scream(s) as much as I do.
At least one of ’em, otherwise… it sucks to be you reading this.
Back to me…
My ❤️ for Scream(s) dates back thirty years (crikey) when I rented the first one on VHS from the corner shop, countless times.
Well, my parents rented it for me. (Don’t judge them, it was the 90s.)
And my first job was working at Blockbuster in Staines (upon Thames), so most of my life I’ve been a bit of a Randy wannabe.

Quick anecdote:
Do you remember being allowed to bring in one of your favourite videos to school, play a clip from it, and talk about it to your class? Well, I did that with Scream. To my Year 8/9 English class. (I don’t think that would be permitted today!?)
Anyway, I’m here to talk about this ground-breaking horror-slasher franchise that added a big, fresh slash to the sub-genre annals back in the mid-90s.
Popularised by the likes of John Carpenter’s Halloween after its release in 1978, this launched a wave of slasher sequels, new franchises, and iconic villains (Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger, et al), attracting the droves of die-hard fans and loyal followers.
But, by the late 80s-early 90s, the slasher narratives and killer sequences arguably became a bit stale, ‘samey’ and ‘by-the-numbers’ carbon copies.
That was until Wes Craven, Kevin Williamson, and Dimension Films teamed up…
